Basil Smash


The basil Smash was created in 2008 by Jörg Meyer of the Lion in Hamburg. It quickly became a phenomenon and won the “Best New Cocktail” award at the 2008 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.



6 cl of Gin

6 cl of fresh squeezed lime juice

3 cl of sugar syrup

10 leaves


Recommended gins:

Hendrick’s Gin (Used by Meyer when he first created the cocktail)

Berkeley Square Gin (gentle herbal tones)




Whisky – Tumbler.



Add all ingredients in a ( cold ) shaker , add a lot of ice ( 10 icecubes at least ),shake it vigorously 15 sec, fine strain ( double filter ), add extra ice cubes.


One head of Basil.
